Renaissance faires in Delaware

Delaware came late to renaissance faires: the state's first, the Delaware Renaissance Faire, debuted in 2022 on a Townsend farm property known as Firebase Lloyd and sold out its inaugural weekend despite minimal publicity. That faire is owned and operated by Found Artifact Entertainment LLC — the company that also manages the Philadelphia Renaissance Faire, Connecticut's Midsummer Fantasy Renaissance Faire, and the Bucks County Renaissance Faire — and it now runs three weekends each fall with professional shows on five stages and dozens of craft vendors, with its 2025 pub proceeds benefiting the Delaware Museum of Nature & Science. A second event, the Blue Hen Renaissance Festival, bills itself as Dover's very first renaissance festival. Beyond the renaissance events proper, much of Delaware's costumed-festival scene is maritime: in Wilmington, the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation stages Captain Kidd's Pirate Day at its shipyard campus and Copeland Maritime Center, an annual event inspired by what the foundation calls Delaware's infamous Captain Kidd, with tours of the Kalmar Nyckel, the state's replica of the Swedish ship that landed in Delaware in 1638. Downstate in Bowers Beach — described as once one of the premier fishing villages on the Delaware Bay — the Buccaneer Bash was already an annual pirate celebration by 2015, featuring treasure hunts, sword fights and a replica pirate ship with cannons, and its festival weekend has coincided with programming at the Bowers Beach Maritime Museum. New Castle County government organizes the annual Faerie Festival at 72-acre Rockwood Park, set around an 1851 Gothic Revival mansion, and the county reported that one year's edition welcomed 6,000 children and families.
