Captain Kidd's Pirate Day

Captain Kidd's Pirate Day is a family-oriented pirate event staged by the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation on its Wilmington shipyard campus and inside the Copeland Maritime Center, taking inspiration from Delaware's association with Captain Kidd. Visitors can tour the tall ship Kalmar Nyckel, watch cannon demonstrations and try cannon drills made for children, and take part in a "sword school," blacksmith demonstrations, pirate crafts and treasure hunts. A pirate storyteller, pirate songs and pirate "science" sessions round out the programme, alongside face painting and food trucks. Costumes are encouraged, and rain moves activities indoors or under cover.
