Alabama Renaissance Faire

A free-admission, all-volunteer renaissance faire held in Wilson Park (Fountaine-on-the-Green), a handicapped-accessible one-city-block public park in downtown Florence, Alabama. Founded in 1987 with a mission to educate about the Medieval and Renaissance eras through entertainment, it covers a timeline of 1100 to 1650 with emphasis on 1330-1550, and its theme and monarchs change each year. Visitors find more than 80 artisans, costumed revelers, music and performances, with associated activities including a chess tournament, art, sonnet and photography contests, a lecture series, and separately ticketed Renaissance Feast and Queen's Tea Party. Costumes are welcomed but not required.
