Great Basin Scottish Highland Games

A Scottish heritage event presented by the Northern Nevada Throwing Company, held at the Virginia City Fairgrounds and bringing Highland traditions to the Truckee Meadows area. Heavy athletics form the core, with competitions in the caber toss, stone put, hammer throw, weight for distance, weight over bar and sheaf toss. Alongside the field events are bagpipers and drumming, Northern Nevada Highland Scottish Dancers, beard competitions, Highland coos, clan research booths with catalogs of clan names, and vendors selling tartans, jewelry, crafts and Scottish treats. Food and beer vendors and a children's area with games and coo feeding are also present.
